Lilydale's Past
From
fossils embedded into the sandstone riverbluffs through marinas, brick
yard kilns and a small but proud town named for either an old
Mississippi tow pilot song or Pickerel Lake’s lily pads,
Lilydale has made its mark on history.
Since becoming a Regional Park in 1971, the area has been unhabited.
But the human and natural worlds continue to intersect in a living
museum. Lilydale’s past reflects the entire river
valley’s history from the prehistoric to the modern era.

Lilydale's Future
We
support a Master
Plan emphasis on efforts that clean up and preserve the
park's natural features while increasing safe usage and access. Also
anticipated is improvement of interpretive features that explain
Lilydale's connection to the Mississippi River, environmental features,
and human history of the area. We are constantly working with
Saint Paul Parks & Recreation staff and other partners to
implement these goals.
Recent
improvements including the Vento’s View Lookout, a bicycle
path extension from Harriet Island, aeration of Pickerel Lake, and new
projects such as trails down the bluff from Cherokee Park and a
butterfly garden point to a bright future.
